The Places panel contains a list of places you have saved. Every location saved in the My Places folder will be available for viewing in your next sessions with the program. But have in mind that items that are in the Places panel but aren't saved in the My Places folder will be unavailable in the next Google Earth session if you do not move them to your My Places folder. To prevent this, you can easily drag-and-drop them there. A good tip is not to over-populate the My Places folder, otherwise Google Earth will load slowly.

Probably the coolest new feature in the latest beta of Version 4 is the ability to use a joystick to fly around the Earth! Any kind of joystick will do. While a "flight stick" is recommended, the experience is an absolute blast with any type of joystick. Setting it up is easy. First, of course, make sure your controller is plugged in. Next, go into [Tools] --> [Options], go to the "Navigation" tab and look at the "Navigation Mode" and "Controller Settings. In the "Controller Settings" area, make sure that "Enable Controller" is checked. Then, choose "Flight Control" from the "Navigation Mode" area. Change it back to "Pan and Zoom" when you're done flying.

Also, it's important to turn on "3D Buildings" in the layers section on the left side of your Google Earth window in order to be able to fly between buildings.

Another neat trick is the ability to view real-time weather in Google Earth can be quite useful. Version 4 now supports some time features which should allow for even better weather maps in the near future.
